When you applied to a Chinese university to teach English, did your contact use emoticons in their emails? Also is it appropriate for Chinese businesses to use a yahoo account or other types of public emails for correspondence?|||It is considered improper to use emoticons when you are applying for a post in any institution or company. Emoticons should only be used with friends and never in formal settings.

Businesses can opt to use a yahoo account or any public email for correspondence. However, it would be better if a company has its name in the email address. There are many domains that sponsor/cater to this.

Hope this helps.
